As you probably know, Romania doesn’t abound in wealth. However, it abounds in goodwill people, faith and kindness.

In order to sustain our recurring school activities, we need sports equipment, funds for trips and school outings, camps, literary gatherings and many others. We’re also looking to purchase a set of our national folk costumes, for the school’s dance team.

.......... Scoala Gimnazială Roesti – Cueni , Com . Roesti,  jud.Valcea este o scoală cu veche traditie in istoria invatământului românesc, cu rezultate deosebite obtinute  atât de cadrele didactice ale scolii, cât si de elevii săi.

The Middle School of Roești - Cueni, from Roești, Vâlcea County, is one engulfed in rich Romanian educational tradition, offering great result from both the teachers and the scholars.

 

.          Așezată geografic in zona  platformei  Oltetului, care face parte din marele  domeniu al Depresiunii  Getice, Comuna Roesti , strajuită de codrii   seculari  ai  Cotosmanului, este  situată  intr-o zona  deluroasa, pe  cursul  mijlociu al riului  Cerna   Oltetului, cat si  pe  cursul inferior al Cernisoarei.

Comuna    Roesti    cunoaste   o puternica  dezvoltare de-a lungul   intregii sale istorii.

 

 

Being geographically placed on the shelf of the Oltet, part of the Great Getic Pan, and surrounded by the centennial forests of Cotosmanu, the village of Roesti enjoys hilly surroundings, along the middle course of the Cerna   Oltetului  river, as well as the inferior one of the Cernisoara   river. Over time, Roesti Village experienced great evolution.

 

.         Marturiile    documentare   ce se   pierd in negurile    antichitatii, glasuiesc despre existenta oamenilor  pe  aceste   meleaguri  stravechi, despre   preocuparile  lor, mestesugurile   practicate, despre   talentul  si  maiestria cu care au reusit sa  infrumuseteze   si   sa   innobileze    traditiile    locale

Documentary evidence that has found its way through the haze of immemorial times, now speak of the life people used to live on these archaic lands, about their object of work and the talent and craftsmanship used to enrich and emblazon the local traditions.

.          Din surse  neconfirmate   ştiinţific, denumirea    pentru   satul de reşedinţa al comunei  care determina   si   denumirea    comunei, satul   Roesti, sat format din familii de moşneni, ar   proveni de la antroponimul    Roescu, cetăţean al acestor     locuri care de fapt    figurează     si in atestarea      documentara din anul 1581 sub denumirea de Roesci. După  alţii    denumirea de Roestiar fi data de îndeletnicirea   locuitorilor   acestor   meleaguri cu creşterea   albinelor.

Although scientifically unconfirmed, the name of the village, mainly shaped by families of peasants, is believed to have come from the name of Roescu, a villager of this land, being stated in documentary evidence back to 1581, under the name of Roesci.

According to others, the name would reflect the villagers’ occupation of cultivating bees.

 

.         Din lucrarea „Memoriile unui învăţător” de Ion Constantinescu rezulta    ca la  începutul  secolului al XIX in componenta     comunei    Roesti, a existat   si   satul    Negraia Mare, pe   apa  Negraii    unde se afla o vilcea   si o colina   numita „Prisaca" .Locuitorii   acestui sat aveau   foarte    mulţi    stupi de albine. Funcţionarul   însărcinat la acea data din partea   Prefecturii cu denumirea    oficiala a comunelor   trecind   pe  aici, poate   tocmai in timpul    roitului, si  vazand   mulţi   stupi, si-a zis :pentru    ca  toţi   aceştia au roi cu albine, este   nimerit   sa li se zică „Roesti”.

From the "Memoirs of a teacher" by Ion Constantinescu, we find that in the early part of the 19^th century, part of Roesti was also the village of Negraia Mare, along the river of Negraia and near the Prisaca hill. The people of this village owned many hives off bee.

The man officially tasked by the prefecture with naming the village, while walkingthrough it and noticing all those hives and bees, thought it was appropriate to name the village after a cluster (=roi, therefore naming the village Roesti).

 

.           O a treia   varianta, tot după  niste   autori   necunoscuti, la cota din Dealul  Razboaielor de 467 m altitudine se găseşte  punctul  numit  Râpa   Căramizii. Se spuneca in acest  loc  ar fi existat un fort construit de daci  sau  romani care servea in perioada  năvălirilor  barbare  sa  dea de veste  prin  focuri  aprinse  altor  forturi  precum  cel de la Grădiştea-Vâlcea  acestor  năvăliri. Astăzi se mai pot identifica  ruinele  acestui fort, capitanulacestui fort se spuneca se numea  Roescu  si   ca  avea sub supraveghere  toate  satele  ce  erau in imprejurimi, de aici  denumirea de Roesti.

 

A third story, of unknown author, mentions Rapa Caramizii at the elevation of 467 meters in the "Dealul  Razboaielor" hill. It is said that on that hill the romans or the dacians have built a fortified fort, serving in time of barbarian invasion with lit fires, letting other forts such as the one from GradisteaValcea, know of the barbarian attacks. We can still find the ruins of this fort today. Also, its captain was Roescu, who held under supervision all the villages in the area, hence the name of Roesti.

 

.           Comuna  Roesti este  atestata  documentar din anul 1526 din timpul  domniei  lui  Radu de la Afumaţi. Intr-un hrisov din acea  vreme se vorbeşte  despre  zonele  componente ale localităţii  si  despre  satul  Olteanca de Roesti.  Deasemenea  intr-un hrisov  domnesc din  8 ianuarie 1581 din timpul  lui  Mihnea Voievod, zis  Turcitul, (1577-1583 și 1585-1591), prin care Șerbu, un localnic din Roești, cumpăra  pământ și primea confirmarea  oficială a domnitorului.

The township of Roesti is first stated in 1526, during the kingdom of Radu from Afumati. It is written in a record of that time about the compounding areas of that place and also about the "Olteanca de Roesti" village.

Moreover, we find in a charter dating 8 January 1581, during VoivodeMihnea, also known as Turcitul, that Serbu, a villager from Roesti, bought some land and received the official confirmation of the lord.

.          Satele  sunt  asezate de-a lungul  vaii  Cernisoara: :Saioci,  Ciocâltei, Băiasa,   Piscul  Scoarței, Roești,  Râpa  Cărămizii,  Băjenari,  Cueni,  Frasina,  Bărbărigeni.

The villages are settled along the valley of Cernișoara:Saioci, Ciocâltei, Băiasa, Piscul   Scoarței, Roești, Râpa  Cărămizii ,  Băjenari,  Cueni, Frasina, Bărbărigeni.

.             Frumusetea  zonei a fost  remarcata  si de scriitorul Al. Vlahuta, care a poposit  pe  aceste  locuri: “... de la gura  Cernisoarei in sus intre  Oltet  si  Olt  este o livada  incantatoare, cu vai  strabatute de ape limpezi, cu pajisti  infloritoare   pe sub poalele  codrilor”.

The remarkable beauty of the area has also been spotted by the writer AlexandruVlăhuță, having once lodged on those lands. This can be found in his writings: “[…] from the outfall of the Cernișoara river, and up between Olteț and Olt, there is a beautiful meadow, with valleys being raced by pure waters and blossoms grazing at the foothill of the forests. “.

ISTORICUL SCOLII.

School history

.           Inceputurile  invatamantului  organizat in Roesti , s-au făcut in a doua  jumătate a secolului al - XIX -lea.

In punctul  numit „Gura   Padinilor" se afla un local de primărie  construit din cărămida.  Aici a funcţionat prima scoală al cărei  invatator a fost fiul  lui  Vasile  Condei. Scoala a funcţionat cam pana in anul1880,  cand a fost  desfiinţată de primarul   Mache Cernatescu.

It wasn’t up until the middle of the 19^th century, that an organised educational system started to take form in Roești.

In “GuraPadinilor” the building of the town hall was built up of bricks. It was there that the first school was opened, being ruled by the son of VasileCondei. It stayed opened up around 1880, when it was disbanded by Mayor Mache Cernatescu.

.           In anul 1906 ia  fiinţa  Scoala Primara  condusa de învăţătorul Marin Nemulescu absolvent al Scolii  Normale de Invatatori Craiova „Vasile  Velovan" , in localul   fostei  primarii al comunei  Roesti , primarie  desfiinţată  prin  reforma  administrativa din 1904 cand s-a înfiinţat  comuna  Roesti-Cermegesti, cu sediul  primăriei in satul   Cueni-Cerna. Scoala, construcţie din lemn, se afla  langă  actuala  construcţie a Scolii  Primare  Roesti. La aceasta  scoală a funcţionat  pana in anul 1930 învăţătorul Marin Nemulescu. Din acest  an de la Scoala  Primara  Buruene-Hunedoara s-a transferat  învăţătorul  Vasile  Nicolae sub conducerea  căruia s-a construit  actualul local de scoală. Tot in aceşti  ani  scoala s-a  mărit cu inca  doua  posturi  apoi cu patru  posturi  fiind  ocupate de învăţătorii: Nicolae  Vasile, Pecingine Ion, Stanciulescu Gheorghe si  Popa Gheorghe. Şcolile de opt ani au biblioteci  şcolare  ce  însumează  aproximativ 15000 volume si  deservesc  interesul  şcolilor.

 

In 1906 the Primary School opens and is directed by teacher Marin Nemulescu, graduate of the VasileVelovan Normal School of Teachers in Craiova. The school functioned in the building of the old Roești town hall, disbanded during the 1904 administrative reform, when the village of Roești – Cermegesti was founded, with its town hall in theCueni – Cerna village.

The school, built up of wood, was located near the current location of the Roești Primary School. It was there that Marin Nemulescu taught until 1930. Following that year, teacher Vasile Nicole, transferred from the Buruene – Hunedoara Primary School and, under his guidance, the present building of the school was raised. In the same period of time the school opened up another two teacher jobs and lately another four, all being occupied by the following: NicolaeVasile, Pecingine Ion, Stanciulescu Gheorghe and Popa Gheorghe.

The middle schools have libraries that own up around 1500 volumes serving the school’s interest.

.           In comuna  Roesti  funcţionează  trei  instituţii  şcolare, din care doua  scoli cu clasele I-VIII, una  cu  clasele I-IV si  trei  unităţi  preşcolare.

Coordonarea  invatamantului in comuna  Roesti  este  asigurata de Scoala  Gimnaziala  Cueni, situata in satul cu acelasi  nume.  Scoala  funcţionează  intr-un local nou. Primele  cinci  săli de clasa  sunt  funcţionabile din anul 1962 si  ultimile  patru  săli de clasa  funcţionabile din anul 1976. In scoală  funcţionează  si  Grădiniţa  Cueni

We can find three schools in the village of Roești, among which two are middle schools, one primary and also three kindergartens.

The administrative business concerning studies in Roești village is carried out by the Middle School of Cueni, located in the village bearing the same name. The school now has a new building. The first five classrooms are functional since early 1962, while the four last ones are opened since 1976. In the same building also operates the Cueni Kindergarten.

 

.             De-a lungul  timpului s-au remarcat  prin  activitatea  lor  si au dat  stralucire  aparte  catedrei  un  numar mare de dascali. Reamintim o parte dintre  acestia: Tudor  Nicolae, Cărămidă  Aurel, Nicolae Emil,  Dicu Dorel, Barbu  Anisia, Mazilu  Constanța, Ciucă Ileana, Păunescu Gheorghe, Dicu  Georgeta, Vâlcoci  Vasile, Necșuleu  Ilie, Slabu Maria, Băjan Paula, Barbu Gheorghe, Ciucă Gheorghe, Constantinescu Ovidiu, precum șiînvățătorii:, Popescu Nicolae, Nicolae  Rozalia, Ion Mihăescu, Pecingine Ion, Păunescu  Elisabeta, Popescu Lucia, Stănciulescu  Aurel,  Giuran  Steliana, Stănciulescu  Aurelia, Mazilu Petre, Dicu Marinela,  Dicu Ion, Dicu  Nicolae.

Over time, there have been many teachers remarked for their work, that have also given a specific shine to the chair.
